ASK Listed below are questions intended to initiate a discussion with sign fabricators about green construction alternatives. 1 Does the signage fabricator have a production facility that is close to the project location? Minimum distance = Minimum CO2 s 2 Are materials locally sourced? LEED Guidelines = 500 miles 3 What is the recycled content of the materials used? Ex. Will a material supplier or fabricator take back a material at the end of its life cycle for recycling? 4 How easy will it be to disassemble the signage at the end of its life for recycling? A difficult to disassemble piece will discourage future recycling. 5 Will waste be minimized during fabrication? Ex. Is there a plan in place to eliminate or minimize environmentally harmful by - products? |

6 Is there room for experimentation? Is the fabricator willing to spend extra time necessary to determine which greener options will work? 7 How will the finished product be shipped? Ex. Are packing materials recyclable, or re-usable? 8 Are graphics applied with no or low VOC inks and/or paints? Ex. Does the fabricator have the capability of using some of the greener UV or corn based inks? 9 Are recommended light fixtures energy efficient? Ex. Can the light be dimmed? 10 What green alternatives does the fabricator recommend? Get those you work with involved. | |||
